Impact Makers

Dec 12, 2019

I am excited to share something with you that is near and dear to my heart. It's very much like my baby, and just like a baby, sometimes it's a joy and other times it can be challenging. But no matter what happens, I'll always love it. Well, what exactly is it? It is DisruptHR.

You may already be familiar with DisruptHR. But I'm sure there are some who have never heard of it, or if you have, you haven't been interested in learning more about it. Whether you're a huge fan of DisruptHR or not, I think you'll get some great takeaways from this episode.

Today, I'm going to share how DisruptHR has grown from an idea shared over lunch, to a global community that has helped people around the world to get their ideas heard and how it challenges the community to grow and connect with other like-minded people who can help them in their careers. Plus, I’m going to share what I've learned about starting and growing a movement without losing my mind.

DisruptHR was created out of a need to encourage leaders to take risks, to stir the pot and to disrupt in order to succeed. My hope is that by listening to this episode, you are encouraged to go out there, find a place where you can start dancing, see if you can get somebody to dance with you, bring on more people, and create the change you want to see in the world.

Show Highlights:

  • DisruptHR: Founding beliefs and how it all began
  • Chris Ostoich, founder of DisruptHR, how I was the flint for the idea and he was the fire
  • 12/3/2013: the date of our first event, what took place, and gearing up to do it all over again
  • Lessons learned from our humble beginnings
  • The growth of DisruptHR from Chicago to Canada and later NYC, By 2015, 12 or 14 cities in the US and Canada were holding events
  • My belief that everybody has the potential and opportunity to start a movement and to get people engaged
  • DisruptHR is about the disruptors, people who are participating in events or who watch or share videos

"The First Follower transforms a lone nut into a leader. If the leader is the flint, the First Follower is the spark that sets the fire."

"The Second Follower is a turning point: it's proof the First has done well. Now, it's not a lone nut, and it's not two nuts. Three is a crowd, and a crowd is news."
